Urgent QT tank size question
I have a 10g QT tank with a firefish and a baby banggai in it.
I have the opportunity to buy a 3" white tail tang. Can the tank sustain all three for a few weeks? Will the tang bother the two shy fish in that size tank? I don't want any trouble but I do want this fish.

ideally i recommend atleast 20gal tank for QT but if space it limited and fish dont have aggression issues then you should be fine for qt term. Each fish behaves differently so hard to say if they will fight or chase eachother or not. The earlier two are peaceful fish but tang not so sure.

yeah, I'm not so sure either. afraid the activity of the tang will freak the other two out in such a small space.

I would worry about ammonia in a tank that size, especially with a tang not to mention the others. Do you have Nother tank to setup? If not add a piece of liverock and lots of PVC pieces for hiding to make everyone feel secure. Also get a ammonia alert badge so you will know when the ammonia is rising right away. The tang being the last fish added I doubt you will have any aggression problems, if the tang was established then it would be a different story

Whitetail tang!!! No fair!!! How'd you find one?
I second the liverock, and alert badge. If this is the largest tank you got, use it. Keep up with water changes and add a bacterial supplement like bio-spira or similar. Keep some meds at the ready and maybe some egg crate to separate any combatants. Good luck Daniel |

The QT tank is fully cycled and has a filter rated for 30 gallons, but I am still on the fence about adding a third fish to such a small tank. I think I am gonna hold off and not take the chance.
It's a hard decision though!

If you've got a line on a true Whitetail bistletooth tang for reasonable money, do not pass it up! I've seen people on waiting list for more than a year to get that fish! The firefish and Bangai are easy to find anywhere.
