Replacement power supply for mp40?

My power supply died after 8+ years. According to ecotech there was a little corrosion inside the tip. So a replacement is going to cost me 50+12 shipping and the 6 to send them to inspect my old power supply.

Since There was water damage/corrosion, they could not offer me any discount. Guess it was my fault. Anyway, has anyone bought to a different power supply? $50 seems steep.

I just used a spare power supply I had for a laptop. Been going strong for over a year now.

This should work since the ends appear to be the same.

Frankly, I was quite disappointed that ecotech went with such a cheap non water resistant power supply. Considering what they are using isn't designed to come in contact with water and what we are paying for their products, they dropped the ball.

Are the ones from the laptops the same amps?

They are also made in China, wonder how big the profit margins are.

Sorry to hijack but I have a question along the same lines. I am interested in upgrading an mp20 to an mp40 but Ecotech doesn't supply the upgrade kit anymore and want you to buy the components separate, which means $50 power supply in addition to the Controller. So I am wondering can anyone post pics of the mp40 power supply to see if I can locate a replacement through an electronics surplus store? They have all sorts of power supplies available just need to find specific watts/amps etc.
