Some tank problems..
Hello..
so I'm new to the thread and I've been doing my research and I think my new tank has ich. I had a blue tang and a coral beauty and they both died from it. before I caught on. But in the tank I have two clown fish that are still fine??that have been in the tank since I fist started about 3 months ago.. I also have a Metallic Green Star Polyp and two anemones couple hermit crabs some snails and two peppermint shrimp. I've set up a qt tank and I was going to move the clowns to the qt tank for the 7 weeks my dt tank needs to kill off the ich..any advice??I mean do I need to take them out they must have an amune since they don't have it and are fine should do I even need to take them out? |

Welcome to Reef Central.
I am sorry to hear about your losses. I'm glad your clowns seem to be doing well. I would remove those two fish from the DT and transfer to your QT. They will need to be QT'd for 8 weeks, which may turn into 12 because I would recommend you allow your tank to sit fallow for 12 weeks to rid that tank of ich. Still assuming the other fish did indeed die due to ich, I would develop a routine to treat the two clownfish in QT for ich even though they are not showing signs. Fish can still harbor the cyst which can break out again later on. Copper is commonly used to treat marine ich. Here is a thread that has a lot of information via links organized in one location. I would skim a lot of these for information on the subject at hand. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1031074 If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Happy reefing!!

[QUOTE=killacam;22695030]Hello..
so I'm new to the thread and I've been doing my research and I think my new tank has ich. QUOTE] You are saying you THINK??? Even self you caught it late, you said your tank up and running 3mths now. Which means you would of had the fish in there about 1-1/2mths. What were the signs and symtoms. In only a few days you would definitely see a bad outbreak of ich......... that's not sounding right. Give us some history of your tank and size

What size tank? Did it cycle? That seems like a lot of livestock for a tank that is 3 months.

wow so I just tried to put a picture of my tank in here and lost everything I wrote fml lol
well take 2 Thanks for the reply's.. I said I think because I was trying to be modest.. so I started the tank with 2 inch live sand bed and about 60+lbs of live rock and added some dr tims. At about 3weeks I threw in 2 clowns.( I know kind of mean ) The tank did cycle. I tested every week and just kept my eye on every thing everything seemed good so about a month an and a half I added a coral beauty and it seemed to get a little bit of the white spots but seemed fine breathing normal didn't really seem to affect the fish so I just added the garlic enriched food with green seaweed as I feed it.. then about a little over 2 months I threw in a Paracanthurus and stuff got real..The coral beauty died a couple days later and I was thinking that she was just getting picked on. But then the Paracanthurus got covered in white spots a couple days later and it was giving the tail tail signs of ich, rubbing on rock breathing heavy and next morning she was dead.. The tank is a 40gal I have a marine land reef ready led system set up with a fluvial 405 canister (I know I know) it just has poly fill and biomax I am planning on getting a protein skimmer down the road the temps between 78-80 the salts at 1.025 with a hydrometer but I do have a refactometer on order the ph 8.2-8.4 nitrate-0 nitrite-0 ammonia-0 calcium 500 I also added a green dragon eye zoanthid a couple days ago. so I was thinking I would add a couple more corals and let the tank sit with no fish in it for 8weeks. but I still have the clowns in there because I've been getting mixed reviews on running a qt tank uncycled or cycled.. which I'm still not sure on which I should do being that the clowns will be in the tank for so long? and suggestions? I'm using a 15 gal bio cube as a qt tank.btw |

Don't get new tangs or dwarf angelfish. A 40 gallon tank is too small for them.
