New Reef Tank

I have always had a freshwater tank and I wanted to start a saltwater one.

I have a 30 gallon with dry rock and live sand. I just started the cycle last week. I havent tested the water yet but will do soon.

My question is what do I do next? When do I add fish, CUC, and Corals?

The next thing you do is wait for the cycle and do some research. There is alot to know and you need to read and find out what livestock you want to keep. We can tell you do this or do that. But you first need to decide what you want in it.

Start with CUC after cycle is done, wait 2 or 3 weeks, and then you can add fish.

I suggest that you visit http://www.liveaquaria.com/ and look up the fish you are interested in. Make a list of those who are well suited to your tank size and the 'style' of tank you want to build. Check the compatibility charts to make sure your species can cohabitate. Don't overstock or add them too fast. Go slowly and enjoy learning as much as you can in the meantime.

I would suggest just forgetting about the tank for a while, let it do it's think, come back and do some standard testing to make sure it's live able.

Then make a VERY specific stock list of critters that u want, then post them here and we can maybe tell you some info and help you tweak your stock list.

I'm assuming this is non-reef.

Start by reading the stickies at the top of this forum. Your tank won't be ready for corals for at lest 30 days and depending upon your setup, closer to 60 days. While there are no stupid questions, what you are asking is comparable to

'I just bought a space shuttle. What do I need to launch it?' The stickies will do the following:
1. Give you the basic vocabulary of reef keeping
2. Explain the basic biology, chemistry and physics of the hobby
3. Walk you through the entire cycling process
4. Give you a basic primer on what you can keep in a reef
5. Provide a list of basic equipment needs.

Start there and you'll be well on your way to a successful experience in the hobby.
