Aquatop SWP-1800

I was tempted into buying an Aquatop 475gph to feed my skimmer instead of a Danner. (it was less than half the price)

Now, the question I have is, it appears that the Aquatop isn't powerful enough. Even with the valve on my skimmer as closed as it goes, it wont fill past half of the zone it is supposed to be in.

Did I purchase to small of a pump, or do the aquatops just not run like they say they do? What should I get to run it? (Note: the internal water level is 2 feet higher than the sump level)

The skimmer is a Hydor 120/550-505

That link should pull up the manual.

I have the internal water level about 2 feet higher than my sumps water level hence my issue. I thought it would fit in the sump, it doesn't so I have it outside and had to raise it up for the output to go over the edge of the sump.

I have the Hydor 700 model and it came with the feed pump, if it is not pushing enough water then the pump is too small, that is the problem with having a skimmer that most people use not to much info out there. The Hydo pumps are cheap which model did they recommend?

I have a Hydor 705 and love it.

I do not remember what pump I purchased for mine although it was a cheap one a little larger in volume then they recommended.

Get a larger pump and place the water level where the manufacture indicates it should be and you will be fine.

Yeah, I intend to buy a Mag from Danner. I was just wondering about the pump I bought, because it said 475 GPH 300 GPH at 2 feet, so I wasn't sure if I needed a larger Danner, or if the aquatops just suck.

I bought a Mag 5 for my other external skimmer, it is a bigger skimmer 6'' tube almost 30 inches tall. What are the dimension of your skimmer?
