Torn between two pumps

I have been going through specs and pumps, and trying to grasp the flow rate calculations. I have had some trouble with determining the flow rates of dual 1 inch drains in a drilled 210 gallon tank. I have narrowed it down to 2 pumps that seem to fit my needs, the price difference is marginal I was looking at using it later to drive additional things like a dual reactor setup. It also needs to provide some of the flow I only have 2 MP40s to go in it and it is 72 wide.

The first is the waveline DC6000 which seems to produce 400-1500 gph

The second is the waveline DC10000II , it draws nearly twice the power and seems to produce 900-2800

so is the 10k turned down the way to go, or should I run the 6k at a higher load? Who has run these pumps, with what kind of ever flow and at what power setting?

Any information is appertained.

Always go bigger! You may want to drive reactors, or manifolds later on which will eat up some of that excess. Did you include head pressure in that calculation? Don;t forget, every turn in your plumbing adds head pressure as well.

I know it's a guy cliche, but the bigger, stronger pump is always the better choice, especially if the cost difference is marginal.

The advantage of getting a larger DC pump is you can run it at a lower setting. This makes the pump quieter and more efficient. It also gives you room to ramp it up should you need the extra flow for reactors, a refugium, or what have you.

I like to run closer to 10 times the DT through my sumps, so the bigger pump is the way to go. With the smaller pump you will have less than 5 turn overs maximum with no way to increase flow. With thwe bigger pump you have the option of a higher flow and if you dial the bigger pump back you will save on energy, so I wouldn't worry about power consumption.

If it helps-
I run a DC 10000 on a 250 @ next to highest speed.
I do not think anything smaller would do the job.

RO is coming out with new versions of their DC pumps next month, If you aren't in a hurry I would wait. Other than that yes I agree with what the others said, go large and turn it down to your needs.

Thank you for all the replies, I did not know about RO coming out with a newer version, don't like to buy off the first run of anything so I will see how they do if there that much better I can always down grade this one to the backup. I just went ahead and ordered the 10kII and took advantage of one of the sales going on this weekend so it didn't cost me any extra over what I had looked at.

Thank you guys for all the replies and giving some feed back on how they are running.

I have a waveline 6000 at about 60% on my tank. Dead silent and just fine. Could easily run faster.
