Ro/di water storage
I have got a cheap trash can from walmart to hold water to top off. Made 30 gallons with 0ppm and decided to re check three days later and ppm is at 1. Think this is due to the cheap trash can. Ro still at 0 from ro unit.

Could be. The consensus is to use a brute trash can that says food grade or food safe on the bottom of it.

Thank you sir. I tossed out the water to my trees and headed to lowes in the morning.

I've heard that some new plastic containers will leak out some bad stuff, but after awhile it levels out.

I would not worry about 1 ppm. Unless the container is totally sealed, airborn dust etc is going to settle in there are raise TDS with no harmful effects. Do a phosphate test.

Is the trash can made of food grade plastic? If so it should be fine, if not pay a little more and get a good Brute trash can, a manly and reef safe trash can!

I think you are worrying about nothing, at least in terms of the TDS. CO2 from the air alone will boost the measured TDS in fresh water to about 1 ppm. Traces of salt spray dust and other stuff also generally make it impossible to maintain 0 ppm TDS water in a home storage container.

Yes, drinking water cans should be fine, assuming they are plastic.

I keep rodi water in 5g containers, and mix in a 36 g trash can. I don't store rodi water, but produce it as I need it.

I went to rural king and purchased a 20 gallon feed bucket with lid that has been working great. Any thoughts on how long I can keep RO water in the bucket before worrying?
