You can, for a little while until the pellets start to kick in. Be careful not to over do it.

Well it has been over two weeks. I even used dr. Tims waste away for reef tanks. All the water reads within specs except the nitrates. They are above 100 and not going down. Is it that the reactor takes time to kick in? My phospahates are at .25, ph 8.2, ammonia zero, nitrite 0,salinity .25-26, tempe 76.7.calcium 520, but the nitrates are over 100, chnging the water bringsit down only slightly, but clkimbs back ip in a few days. I have cut way, way back on feeding. Algeais disappeaing fast, but i know noticed blck algae on the top of thecrushed coral. It is not filmy like cyno. Any ideas? How long for the nitrate reactor to start to kick in. Protien skimmer is fillimg up faster than usual too. I have very strong aeriation in the sump also. Whatdo you thimnk? Ny corals are fine, except for my trumpet/candy canes. The are regressing into the heads, any clues?

If your NO3 is > 100: Cut back to 1x a week feeding. When feeding, turn off pumps, and only feed what they eat, if there is any excess food, vacuum it up.

Do 15-25% water changes every few days, 100+ ppm NO3 are very bad for any corals.

i have been changing 25 % of the water weekly. I have 5 large 4-5" tangs, a percula clown fish, a royal gramma, a flame angel, 2 green chromis, a foxface, 2 yellowtail damsels, fire shrimp, peppermint shrimp, snails and a million astrea starfish along with small brittle stars feather dusters and small feather worms and two big sponges.. I have over 30 really nice corals. I am down to feeding them 1 cube of myisis shrimp and about 1/2/ " square of frozen brine per day,a small amount offlake food every other day instead of the shrimp. along with dried nori strips. twice a week I use about 1 oz water of very diluted reefroids and a squirt of live phytofeast. it seems my fish are starving. the food last about 2 minutes max. the fish rob all the Mysis from the corals now..i have my acans all together under a clear plastic dome with holes so current goes through well, buy the fish don't get the food from them. I cant imagine feeding any less. about how long does the nitrate reactor take to start to kick in? I am running 400ml or dr. tim's bio pellets fpr nitrate and phosphate. my tank is a 125 with a 20 gal sump. about 150-175lbs live rock . and the black algae ? I have never seen it before. where did that come from? all help appreciated.
