What type of Filter is this?

I got this with the tank when I bought it and I know it was working when I took the tank down, but for some reason I can not get it to work now. I am not at all famliar with the types of filters just freshwater canisters so please forgive my ignorance..... I do know that is a skimmer on the top and the hang on is run by a vacuum system of some type

well I cannot figure out why it is not pulling water thru the hangon I can plug in the power cords and can hear and see water moving across the media filters but nothing is working on the hangon part.

It is a Toms I found a manual for it, but I get it primed and when it starts pumping it stops after a few seconds....found out real fast which part was the water leveler....almost ran it over the top before I noticed...LOL. I believe I just need to buy a new one that has all the parts and manuals and start from scratch with the filter.Suggestions?

Brad I would call the manufacturer, most companies give free technical support over the phone. :-)

Well after parrthed posted I googled it and that's what it is. I talked with the local pet store and the lady knows her stuff and said the first versions had pump issues but I had the second version. She stated that it sounded like the pump wasn't working the way it should and asked me what I intended to do with my tank. I told her I was starting out FOWLR, but would like to eventually go to a reef tank. She this is what I bought she said it would serve the purpose perfectly. I just need to get a protein skimmer next. Eshopps WD-200CS I assembled last night but need to get some reducers and plastic hose clamps to finish.

OK....problem discovered the box is to large to fit into the opening, the box will fit just cant get it under the tank in the cabinet. Is it possible to run 2 smaller units to accomplish the same purpose?

Downsized to a 150 Eshopps it was still to big so I drained tank and slid the tank so I could put filter in thru top of stand. Will finish topping of sump tonight after I make some more RO water and start the pump.
