Calcium reactor?
I'm thinking about adding a calcium reactor to my 55 gallon reef tank - is this over kill or will my system benefit from this?

Depends what you intend to run. I calcium reactor would only do you good in a heavily stocked tank. It may not be cost efficient for a couple years due to the cost of CO² and the reactor. CaCl² dosing would be better for a beginner. On my tank I do CaCl² dosing for the most part and a mix of MgCl² and MgSO⁴. Just proves to be most cost effective for me. I plan on a calcium reactor my my upcoming 180.

If initial cost is not a concern, i dont believe its over kill.
I'm planning a 55G upgrade in the next month and plan to have a calcium reactor. Ca Reactors and 2-part dosing are both proven solutions either will work regardless of the size of the tank. |

I would not run a calcium reactor in a tank under 120 gallons, it would be difficult to dial in IMHO. Dosing two part would be a better option if kalk cannot keep up with demand.

Thanks very much everybody I appreciate your responses - I do have SPS corals so since I saved for it I guess I'll go ahead and buy everything I need. It's kinda funny that the price for everything you need to set it up is about how much I spent to setup my first tank.
