Quick question.

Hey!

My tank is done cycling and I got a stand for it. I know its kinda dumb to not set it up from the beginning but I just so happened to get one now. How should I go about moving this tank? Any tips or concerns? Would it start another cycle?

about the only thing you can do is drain the water into a clean container, lift the tank onto the stand (two people, no doubt), and then add the water back in. you are gonna stir up the sand and you *might* get a mini cycle. don't add any livestock until you do tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.

how long has the tank been cycling? what size is it?

Also if you have sand, it may create a small spike in some parameters so give it a couple days after move it. Listen to Nina's advise.

Another quick question:

I just got the BRS ro/di unit, put the garden hose attachment on one of the lines and can't get it off. How do you get it off?

How long has the tank been running? I asked because most of the bacteria will be in the liverock and/or sand. As the other poster mentioned you can drain the water into a clean container and then do the move. Also, this might be an opportunity to do a water change and either replace all the water or just some of it.

The tank has been running for three weeks. I tested my water yesterday and everything is well I think..

Ammonia - 0

Nitrite - 0

Nitrate - WAS 20! Someone at the LFS told me to do a water change to lower my nitrates to add fish this week and Its at 10 now. Someone else told me that I disrupted everything. I don't know who to believe anymore.

I did a 2.5 gallon water change.

I wouldn't add livestock until youve moved the tank, let it settle, and made sure you dont get a mini cycle. Good luck!

Another tip, is to drain the water until there is a few inches of water left above the substrate. That way, there'll be less of a chance of the water, (if you pour it back slowly), of stirring up the substrate.

A 10gallon? I'd be tempted to drain just enough to avoid spillage and move it all at once. Even with rock and water a full 10g tank isn't gonna weigh much more than 100lb. (just don't drop it!). I've moved my 60g cube several times with at least that much weight in it.

I just moved mine to a new stand yesterday, same size tank. I drained about 30-40% of the water, then moved it carefully to avoid spilling. If you can get a buddy to help move it, it would be ideal.
Don't worry too much about disturbing things, as long as you move it slowly (you'll have to because it will be heavy to move on your own) chances of bad happening are slim.

Better advice.
