Yellow Watchman Goby & Green Mandarin
Can i keep those two type of fish in the same tank? Thinking of starting a 20 gallon and those are 2 fish i would def want in my tank. Anything i should know about them besides feeding? Does anyone have them together in a tank, or previous experience with housing them together?

20 gallon is too small for most marine fish IMO. mandarins definitely need a lot bigger tank. and a matured tank (9 months minimum) as well. but to answer your question, these two fish should be ok together in a large enough tank.

no, i haven't had them together. i was just giving my opinion. i've also read before that these two are fine together. i had a green mandarin before but i gave it away because in my mind, my tank was small (50G) and not matured enough(6 months) for its long term health. now i've got a 150G display with 50G sump 200+ lb liverocks and fuge running for a few months, i plan to buy one mandarin next year. mandarins are one of my favorite fish too.

They will do fine together but mandarins will blow threw your whole 20 gallon tank of copepods In a couple of day so be prepared to be purchasing copepods packs regularly or try to train them to eat frozen mysis shrimp pe being the bet brand for that. They can live happily in a tank that size but need special care to do so

Yes they can live together. A mandarin will most likey starve to death in a tank that size. I kept a ywg & a scooter blenny together for awhile, until I lost the scooter blenny.

That mandarin is going to starve and die very fast in your 20 gallon with sump. Think about it this way. Every second of the day the mandarin is hunting copepods. They dont take a break.
If you want to see your fish starve go ahead and get it. By the way dont get fish that also eat copepods if youre getting a mandarin (wrasses, gobys etc) we dont tell you not to get a mandarin bcUz were jealous its because we know they are very hard to keep in moderate sized tanks and youre planning on outting one in a nano tank. Yes your 20 gallon is considered a nano tank. |

I have a 10 month old 40 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump, about 4-5 gallons of which is a refugium with chaeto and a place for pods to populate unmolested. Even with that and adding $25 bottles of pods twice a month, I still have a hard time keeping up with his eating habits. Like the others have said, a 20 gallon is way too small for a mandarin. A Yellow watchman goby would do nicely though, great little fish with cool personalities all while having a perpetual scowl on their face.

50 gallons with a 30 gallon sump is as small as you can go and keep a mandy alive. A ywg is happier in at least a 30...preferably 50.

Again im asking about temper and housing. I already know the eating habbits. Think of it this way, ive had them before, 72gallon tank & 55. 2 years they did fine, got em to eay frozen food. I asked about keeoing them together guys, I dont need to know what you guys think about their diet. Its just a simple question everone on here nobody answers. Anyone else need to tell me about what manda eat or how the size of ur tank & how long you've had ur tank. Compatability is what im after, not a care sheet guys.

do not put any type of dragonet in to a tank that small. it will not end well.

People can always upgrade a tank. I asked a simple question, CAN THESE 2 FISH LIVE TOGETHER? Has Anyone housed them together? I know about the eating habits, its a lot to take care of. I has one for 2years. I just didn't have anyother goby or dragonet in my tank for them to compete with. Thanks for those of you who answered my question. I wont be doing 20gal. Im ordering a 55 bowfront this week. Thanks again

i don't know about others but that's what i wanted to suggest you from the start. to get a bigger tank. since u said u were "thinking of starting a 20G", i figured u didn't have the tank set up yet. it would be better to start with a proper sized tank than upgrading later imo. that's why i said 20G's too small. i'm glad u've decided to go with a 55G now. good luck with ur new tank.

Dabn AD. You can't ask a stocking question and have people ignore the size of your tank.
