Just a question regarding sumps
Hey aquarists/reefers!! Just a quick question I have,
So far, I have already experienced my 1st tank (that being a nano reef. And It was a good turn out!) that being said..I decided to trade my 20 long that I Had laying around for a 55 gallon tank with a stand. Great deal...*cough* steal. Lol. And took down my 10 gal nano reef and gave all live stock in to my lfs for store credit. Now that I have the 55 running and reused all the rock from the 10 gal and is well seeded...with the sump and just the mechanical filtration running on it...nothing more right now as my cycle is still at its course. I got thinking.... That I can use the 10 gallon I took down for a secondary sump but use it for my protein skimmer and other things. (The sump I have now isn't too extraordinary.) Would I be the first to do this? Or have other taken this route for more sump space since the first sump is too small for a good skimmer? May sound a bit confusing... But I appreciate the help! Thanks! Oh, also, I'm keeping this 55 gal a fowlr until fully decided I want to make it a reef. (I don't have the best lights anymore since the lights I had were only good enough to run on the 10 gal.) but great to just provide light source the 55. |

Just a question regarding sumps
Here is the new project, just some photos. And you can see where the 10 gallon would go for a second sump to add a good protein skimmer and other things, if necessary.

Looks pretty good. But you're going to need a bigger sump. The Aqueon Pro-Flex in the pic is good to go, but good luck getting a sump in there. You could get a 30 G long and build one yourself. The sky is the limit.

Well, that's why I asked...instead of going through the trouble taking the current sump I have, down....just add another overflow and plumb the 10 gallon I now have right next to it. |

Another note your most likely going to need more rock than what you have.
