Show us your water-making station!
One of our local customers, Nik, provided these shots of his work in progress water-making station.
Please reply and share a photo of where you mix your saltwater so we can help inspire and learn from each other! Feel free to include details of how or why you set things up the way you did and which equipment you used. |

100G of RODI and 100G of salt water on hand. My ATO draws directly from my RODI container and my Genesis Renew automatic water change draws directly from my Salt Water mixing container.
The tank on the left holds RODI and the tank on the right holds salt water. I use a Spectrapure 100GPD UHE RODI filter. I have a Little Giant 4MD for the mixing and transfer pump. My Apex controls the Little Giant. I have a garage door button in my shed that I push which turns the Little Giant on for 1 hour allowing enough time to transfer water and adequetly mix the salt. That same pump turns on every 3 hours and runs for 15 minutes to keep the salt water fresh and mixed. A more recent shot with the Renew setup. Between the tanks you can see the renew controller and above the tanks you can see the 1 gallon metering bin for the fresh salt water. This shot shows the garage door button that I push to turn my pump on for 1 hour. This button is run into my break out box for my Apex.

After those above pictures were taking, I added another valve and a T fitting between the Little Giant pump and the line going back into the salt water holding tank that allows me to pump water directly from the mixing station to the display tank by using that little giant pump. This is helpful for large water changes or for replacing water that may be used when acclimating new fish. It's something that I didn't do with my original install but has come in handy countless times since. When I built the new mixing station, I plumbed the two tanks together outside the shed and built the plumbing so the tanks could be easily separated from each other for maintenance and removal purposes. Building the plumbing outside the confines of the shed made it easier to assemble. Note the use of double union ball valves. My first setup was similar but I used a pair of 55 gallon poly food grade drums in a small rubbermaid plastic storage shed. In the end the original mixing station didn't provide me with enough water reserves for my large system nor did the Rubbermaid shed provide me any storage space for my spare equipment, salt etc. The transition to the new shed was simplified by having all the lines in place. This is my original mixing station. When I built this, I had the RODI filter inside a closet next to the tank. The RODI was moved from the house to the new shed when I had that built. The shed is located in the backyard on the wall right behind the tank which is the same location as the current setup.

Here is an LA Fish Guy episode shot about 4 years ago that covers my mixing station, top off and original LiterMeter 3 automatic water change setup. It also touches on some other things about my system. There have been several episodes on my tank over the last 4 years pretty much covering everything. This is one part of Episode 80 which had 12 or so parts in total. There is also episode 96 & 99 which have several parts each as well as some other episodes.
