Royal Gramma and Six line wrasse?
So i'm upgrading to a 30 gallon tank from a ten that i have had set up for awhile. I have been looking into fish to get for the new tank once it's ready. I really want to get both a six line wrasse and royal gramma, but ive been reading bad reviews about the two, mainly if the wrasse is added once the gramma is established. Would it be better to add the wrasse and then later add a gramma, or should I just choose 1?

I havent ever had an aggressive royal gramma, IME they have always been quite peaceful. Sixline wrasses, on the other hand get quite viscous, particularly to fish added after them. If you are dead set on both get the gramma then the sixline. If you are fine with just one get the gramma if you want other fish.

IMO, never add a 6 line to any tank... Likely to get aggressive and become pita.
Royal Grammas are a must have fish, I can't remember ever not having one in the past 40 years... I have 3 now in my 450g DT... $10 fish gets more attention than some $100+ fish!

Determine which you like better, because adding those two to a 30g is an accident waiting to happen, one of which most likely wouldn't end well for the gramma. Sixline wrasse are notoriously aggressive and territorial, especially to those who it sees as a threat to it's resources (food, shelter, etc.). Although royal grammas can typically hold their own amongst larger, more belligerent fish, their temperament doesn't even compare to that of the average sixline. Adding a sixline will also limit what else you can add to the tank, other wrasses will most likely be severely harassed, along with other cave dwelling, copepod munching fish (forget about adding any kind of dragonet). He'd also make short work of any peppermint or smaller cleaner shrimp you decide to add the tank. Not to scare you, but Ive just known too many people who really regret adding this fish to their system .
Royal grammas on the other hand are one of my all time favorite fish, as they are beautiful, hardy, and relatively docile, without being cowards. Good luck with the new tank

6 lines are great fun fish to watch, but every one I've ever had eventually had to be removed, usually after killing several fish twice its size. I've started with small ones and gotten a couple of years out of them before they snap, but sooner or later things get ugly.

Six lines are menaces but nice looking fish.
Royal gramma would be a great addition for your tank size. My current one is aggressive chasing off tank mates and even attacking my hand when I get too close to his quarters. No real damage to tank mates though. |

I've found that the possum wrasses are not aggressive at all. You should also look at the fire fish.
