I.D. the Anemone
Ok, so me and hubby have been feeding this thing since we got our tank set up months ago, thinking it was a cool curly cue anemone, but now I'm wondering if it's aiptasia after seeing some pics online of some that looks similar. We have a peppermint shrimp and it's never bothered this thing and it's never reproduced. POh and it's about the size of a quarter. It's got some pretty iridescent green on it and we enjoy feeding it, so I'm hoping it's not a pest, but better safe than sorry. Thanks in advance for the help. =)

I googled the majano pics and ours doesn't have the big bulbous ends like I'm seeing in those pics...are there varieties with pointier ends? ours tapers and curls on the ends.

ah I found some that look closer to it, I think you are right. So they are a pest?

Hmmm, 'majano' is a rather imprecise term that applies to a number of anemones (just google the term and look at all the pictures that come up). Pest 'majano' anemones that I have had don't look anything like this one - nor do the Aptasia I have had. The fact that it has not spread suggests that it may be OK. I'd be inclined to just leave it as is.

thanks for all the help. I shot Richard an e-mail at Tampabay salt water, since I bought the rock from him. I figured he'd know...he said it's not a pest anemone and so we can keep growing it, yay! I'm not sure what type it is, but as long as it's not bad, we'll just keep it.
