6ft 120 gallon vs 4ft 125 gallon?
Hi guys,
There's someone selling his aquariums in my area. He has a brand new 6ft 120gallon (brand unknown) and a 4ft 125 gallon oceanic for sale. Assuming both equal price, which would you guys go for and why? I plan on having live rock, corals, anemones, and a 3-4 inch sand bed. Thank you ! |

The 125 has a better foot print for reef. The 120 has a better foot print for fish. I'd got 4' 125. Oceanic tanks are built well and should have some nice thick glass.

Depends on the width and what you want to keep. At least IMO.

I think the sizes are listed bass ackwards. 6 footers are usually 125s and 4 footers are usually 120's. There are always oddballs out there though.
I prefer the 4x2x2 tanks, mostly for the front-to-back spacing. The 18" available for the 6 footers is used up quickly. It's also easier to light a 4' tank.

Yes the 4x2 tank is a 120 the 6 is a 125.
I prefer the 120 the additional width makes it perfect for acquascaping and a reef tank looks supurb. However the six foot length of the 125 make for a great fish tank with the additional length allowing for some nicer tangs and larger fish that will be too cramped in a 4' tank. I chose the 120 and have been very happy with my mixed reef tank. I just wish I would have purchased the 180 and had the best of both! |

Personally I would go with the 4ft tank. The 6ft tank will be narrower and require an additional light. I like front to back depth more than length.

All depends on what you want to keep...if you want more fish, go 6 foot. More coral the 4' would look better. Personal preference and no real advantage in 1 over the other.

I agree I started out with a 120 and went right to a 180 two months later.
