Current Orbit LED 48-60" with Ramp Features

Ok so I have a 55g tank with some LPS and softies, I've read mixed reviews on this light but just coming here to see what others think about them.. I currently have a 6x54w TekLight with 54w WavePoints running in it, and my growth seems fairly adequate but it's just to hot for my apartment and I noticed my brothers electric bill went down significantly when he went from T5's to LED's. I do like the Current's Ramp features, storm/lightning mode, etc..

I've read that I may be short of wattage per gallon, so if I were to add a supplemental light to this to add some watts, what would be recommended? A dual T5 fixture? Another 48" LED strip?

Just tryna get ideas, thanks guys!

This is my light

I've seen those at my LFS and they are nice but with LEDs its more of the PAR level you want to be concerned about. Those lights should be fine for softies and LPS placed high in the tank. I wouldn't use them for sps though. If your going to supplement with another light source then all the features of this light would be null. If control is what your interested in look into a Maxspect Razor or another LED lamp that is controllable using an Apex Controller. IMO lights are one thing in this industry that should not be skimped on.

I have a 30g 30" tank, with the 24-36" model. My softies are doing great. I have a plug of radioactive dragon eyes that have easily doubled+. Started with 19 heads. Now there's more than 40. My other zoas and softies seem to respond really good under it as well.

I'm hoping to have a member from a local forum come over with a PAR meter to see what they're putting out. I will say however, I wish I still had my T5's to run tandem with the LEDs in the day time

And like buddy before me said, I build a frag rack to elevate them some. They weren't always on that though, and the lights still supported them.

Also. I had to return the first lamp they shipped me. The thing came in with the light cover busted. More than likely just due to careless ups employees, but still. Be aware. They shipped me a new one within 4 days of my email to them about the damaged one.

I have one and love it but I'm running a reefless tank. I did keep in mind that in the future I will want some mushroom rock but they will be easy to keep with this light.

They do give the PAR on their site in a pdf I believe and it drops fast at the 24" depth they use for the example. My tank is 18" and so I can easily put certain pieces closer.

I did not have the budget for some of the fancier lights but really wanted it to have the sunrise/sunset feature and for the price this light is really fun. I've been playing with all the programs and on days when it is overcast I select one of the cloud cover options. Gives a nice look to the tank.

Currently I run it at 60% blue and white and feel like that's probably as bright as I will go. Again no corals here. If when I do get some they need more light then I still have plenty of room to go up.

I'm just running a 29g with no intent to upgrade for a very long time. I've heard of people putting 2 if they need more.

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's what i was looking for!

Also, I'm not a PAR whiz, but does PAR change with light size? For instance I have the 48-60", so would my PAR be the same as the 24" model.???

Thanks!

It will just be longer and may hang over the sides of your tank.
The 24 is 23" for the light length and the 36 is 35" but both are 3.5" wide.

Instead you could do 2 and have 7" wide which would give more concentration.

But if you were considering to get 2 I'd consider looking at other lights because you'd now be in the $300 range of lighting. So you may find something that could do the job a little better.

I actually picked this one up from my LFS as a Floor Unit because they sold the tank it was on top of. It was only used for about 2 months and he sold it to me for $125. I'd hate to have mismatching lights so if anything I'd put another identical one, but I've seen this light do very well for the reef it was on top of and kinda curious to just see how well it works for me first before buying anything else.. I see some people supplement with other LED's or one T5 bulb or something.. hmmmmmmm..!

If you have one already then see how it goes and either add another or do some spotlight as needed.

I see some of the LFS's have clip on LED's to supplement, but I always wondered exactly how much could one or two of those clip-ons actually help..??

Depends on the technology. There are some nice ones for nano tanks.
