So far the waveline pump for the skimmer and my return have worked flawlessly and ultra quiet.

Apparently no one here likes that skimmer so we can't recommend it. But it is a great skimmer for people who are willing to step down to a piece of crap chinese DC pump.

So how many DC pumps have you personally used, Drae?

Very quiet versus dead silent. That's the debate here. My Chinese DC pumps (I own three that have ran from 3 months to 1.5yrs so far rock solid with no issues) are dead silent.

I have experience with sicce (loud and ridiculous to clean and take apart). I have experience with DC pumps as mentioned as well. No issues, easy to clean, and did I mention dead silent?

The rlss r6i is a beast. I'm using it on my 60g and it's very easily oversized. I don't see any issue on a 90g with it. I'm using the pump on setting 2.5 currently. With a 90, you could go to 8-9.5 and be handily skimming sludge.

No experience with the waveline 3000 or 5000... Too many seemed to go out UPON MY RESESRCH of them in late 2012 and early 2013. I almost bought the r6 from aquarium specialty but opted to go with the aquamaxx/jns line instead. A lot of failures in the first gen waveline dc 5000's. I didnt chance it. It's just my opinion based on research.

Figured so. I would recommend not stating such a harsh view without letting folks know you have zero experience with them.

Reading is great, but you typically won't get a complete view since most folks don't come on RC to talk about how great something works.

IMO, experience > opinion any day of the week. Especially when it's a forum and things can come across wrong or things can be taken the wrong way due to misunderstandings.

Just my two cents

Are you speaking of the more modern Sicce skimmer pumps, or the older "psk" ones? (I think that was the model name)

The new Sicce skimmer pumps, which are the Sicce silent pumps, are not at all hard to take apart. If anything, they are easier than a pump like the SRO. Even the PSK that I had on an ATB 840 was not loud nor difficult to take apart.

It was an older sicce. It was so ridiculously impossible to take apart it turned me off on the brand forever.

Can't really blame you for that....but the newer models are far more normal
My last was an Omega 150, with a Sicce Silent 2 as a pump. The volute was almost too easy to remove.

It is retired now..but for my 90 gal with 20gal sump I went with the Reef Octopus Diablo DCS 150.

My tank is in a central location in my home where "quiet" was one of my top priorities.

The DC pump has been flawless and extremely quiet for me so far with about a year in service. You might
be able to find a model similar in specs to this one.

I also have a SpeedWave DC3000 return pump for the same reasons.

just my .02

It is too bad the AquaMaxx EM series are back ordered all of the time. They are great, silent skimmers. I have an EM200 & 300, both in my den in a 90g and 150g.
