Vortech MP40's - Power outage

So today the power went out for 6 hours! Ok I am ready as I have the Vortech BBU........Ya well except it did not work. Run outside and fire up a small generator I have and plug my 2 MP40's into it. They both fire up and are running at 100%. After a minute or 2 they drop to minimum speed?? Only way to get them to run faster is to power them off and on.

They normally are controlled by my Apex WXM. What am I doing wrong? Power came back on and they are working fine again.

Thankfully with a 180 gallon the tank temp only dropped 1/2 a deg. I was giving the corals an extra shot with a turkey baster as well trying to keep water movement! No idea if that was needed or not but figured it sure could not hurt!

So far everything looks like it survived the power outage and me!

The problem may be having it controlled by the Apex. This happens with Tunze battery backup, I am not sure if it is the same for Vortech. When the Apex loses power, there is no signal going to the pump(in the case of the Tunze), so the pump stays off.
I am unsure what would happen with Vortech....I assume both pumps are in slave mode? Does not getting a signal in slave mode cause a pump to stay off?

If that is the case, the way to correct it is put the Apex on a battery backup. Or run them by themselves with no Apex WXM.
