Bubble Magus?

I just purchased a Bubble Magus Curve 5.

My sump has media in it.
Do I need to remove the sand to use the skimmer?
Right now it is stirring up the sand.

It's spelled and pronounced bubble MAGUS, not Magnus. Pet peeve. Anyhow yes remove all sand from your skimmer chamber and have the skimmer sitting on clean bare glass. Sand is gonna rip that impeller apart

Thanks for the reply.

I cleaned out the sand and installed the skimmer.
I had to raise it off the bottom about 2".
Skimmer is super quiet.
