What is the type of Zoanthids?

Hi all,

I am new here and had a question for you.

I recently got a good deal on a coral and purchased it from a hobbyist. The dude did not know the name of this coral. I did some research and came up to the conclusion that this is a Razzberry creme Zoanthids.

Any idea or hint on the type of this coral is highly appreciated.

Whatever you want to call it. Ultimately it doesn't really matter. If you want to sell any you can make up whatever name you want to also. Just make sure it sounds good or else people won't pay as much for it. Oh and don't forget to pretend like it's super rare!

Are you sure this aren't palythoa's? They look like common paly's to me. I see a lot of large colonies that look similar at the stores around here for cheap.. but the colors in the picture aren't that easy to identify so I may be wrong..

I think you are right. It is a Palythoa. The rim is little different than Zoanthids.

Maybe it is this one: Arctic Ice Palythoa Coral (http://www.reefs2go.com/product/C-PA...-Palythoa.html)

Any more comments or suggestions?

A lot of people consider that particular species a nuisance because they grow so fast and take over the tank quickly. Giving them a fancy name isn't going to change that fact.

Only to people who don't know any better and is kinda shady in general to try to hype up a standard paly to take advantage of newbies or someone in general ..

Imo Names don't sell zoas color, rarity and exclusivity of having the newest thing sell zoas. They just so happen to have a stupid name nowadays lol..

My LFS sells them by the amount of polyps on a frag piece, not their color. He could care less. I got a beautiful orange/white zoanthid frag yesterday with 6 heads on it for $10.00. What ever it is it has neon orange tips with a white/silver center.

The names are just used to distinguish one zoanthid from the other. Some of these names are on the level so to say, others are not. (www.Coralpedia.com) It's kind of like cars. Even though they're both Toyotas, a Toyota Corolla is not the same as a Toyota Camry, and a 1990 Camry might not be the same as a 1992 Camry.

I agree with the majority of folks here. The look is the most important to me. They add a vibe to the tank all together. Since they grow fast, I can learn fragging with them as well. I would just describe them as "Palys" when I want to sell them.

It really sounds like coral can be compared to marijuana, I'm a high school bio teacher and I hear kids talk about that all the time and you should hear all the names they have for it, and it seems like the funnier the name they have for it the more expensive it is. But it's so surprising the stuff the kids will say and they don't think the teachers hear them
