29 gallon stocking recommendations

My 29 gallon tank has finished cycling. The clean-up crew is on the job. The tank will be used to house a maroon gold/yellow striped clown and a rose bubble tip anemone. Since I want to wait about 6 months before adding the clown/nem, what other fish would be a good fit in the months leading up to that? I will have some soft corals so they need to be reef safe and I don't want more than a couple or so. I'm leaning toward some brightly colored wrasses since I don't have any in the big tank. Thanks in advance.

Well darker clowns can be pretty mean, especially maroons. If I was doing a small tank I'd go: Picasso clown, a fire fish(purple is the best bang for buck,) a blenny, and a sixline. All those fish look stunning are mellow and stay small. Most of them are also great to watch.

I would skip the maroons and go for two ocellaris clowns, a tail spot blenny and a clown goby. I think that a 29 gallon is kind of small for a maroon but that's just me.

I keep 2 OC Clowns and a Neon Dottyback. They do very well together. Only issue with the Dottyback though is he will bully new Firefish, Gobies and Blennies . The Dottyback is a beautiful fish, if you decide to get one just make sure it's the last fish you put in after any other similar shaped fish establish territory.

Go with occies or percs, the maroons need a larger tank.

After the clowns I would go with a blenny, a small wrasse like a pink streak or a possum wrasse.

I have two ocellaris in the 180. I guess more info on the maroon would be helpful. Most sites list a 30 as the minimum tank.

Maroons get huge & very aggressive. Once established life will be terrible for any other fish in the tank.

So, I'm thinking that the maroon clown may be the only fish in the tank? Maybe a watchman goby and a pistol shrimp? If other fish are questionable, how about the decorator crab I asked about in another thread?

How many fish are you limiting the tank to? I have one the same size

I'm thinking just the maroon clown and one or two more fish. I only have 10 fish in my 180. In my opinion, having fewer fish makes maintenance and upkeep a little easier.

Pink Skunk Clowns are the most timid of clowns and get along well w/ simular sized or smaller wrasses like Flashers or Fairy Wrasses
