First holidays..

Hi!

I have a 5month old 16g tank. So far i have had a very good experience with no major problems.
I am very diligent with the maintenance of my tank (25% water changes every week).
Tomorrow I am leaving for my 2,5 week holiday and I am very very nervous. Everything is setup. Water change, filled the ATO and made sure everything is in tip-top shape. I have no fish in the tank. Just a cleaner shrimp and 2 sexy shrimp plus some zoa and LPS corals.
I have left a friend in charge who will feed the tank every other day but he will not be able to perform a water change for me

Do you think two and a half weeks will be too much for my little tank?

I left my tank for ~2 weeks twice. Filled a 5G bucket with ro/di for my ATO and made sure my auto feeder had new batteries. Everything was fine.

If you don't even have fish your bioload is probably pretty small so going 2+ weeks without a water change would probably not be an issue.

Also, it seems that you do water changes regularly, which has added benefits. With such a low bio-load, doing 25% changes weekly done for at least 1 month or more would really make that water quiet pristine.

I am not a reefer though, only have a FOWLR tank, so not sure about the coral factor. If at all though, without much knowledge of corals, i would suspect since your habits are consistent and more than adequate, that you should be relatively okay for this extended time.

I would however recommend getting right back on the horse once you're back from your vacation. Do a water change as soon as you have mixed and properly aged new saltwater and change out your carbon and whatever else you should do in your weekly maintenance, and then continue doing your previous weekly regiment. Increase frequency of water changes temporarily if you notice any issues when you get back.
