picking the best ro/do system for my house
I could use some input as to which units to look at.
Here is what we are working with. I'm looking to filter city water that contains fluoride and chlorimines plus any other typical city water contaminants. I want to be able to easily drink the water as well as use it for the tank. It's also important to me that it has a very low waste water output ratio. I have no idea what my water pressure is like. I feel like it is normal, is it much to be concerned about?

2) Drinking RO water is met with some debate. Read more about it here: http://www.3reef.com/threads/is-it-s...rprised.45015/ 3) These are probably some of the best RODI unit on the market: http://spectrapure.com/AQUARIUM/RO-D...-RO-DI-Systems

Those systems look nice but are a little above my price range.

I edited my post before you quoted to mention those systems are a little above my limit.

I would also agree that spectrapure have some of the best rodi systems on the market.

Fair enough. What price range are you looking at and we can point you in the right direction.

It needs to have easy drinking water access. Not sure exactly what that entails but I saw they have returns too and if this one would work it is in my range.

If low waste to good is one of your requirements then you need to find out your pressure to see if you need a booster pump.. (anything under 50psi will need a booster pump or just adjust the pressure regulator for your house if possible..)
And you will either want to change the flow restrictor or add a dual RO membrane to change the rate. Drinking RO water is fine.. Its RO/DI thats under "debate" and lacks the "taste" A proper drinking water system will T off right after the RO and before the DI stage. and these are companies that are commonly recommended for RO/DI systems around here.. in no particular order.. spectrapure airwaterice buckeye hydro bulk reef supply |

I recommend Russ at Buckeye and only use membranes that have been pretested. The biggest issue with R/O is staying above 50 psi like others have mentioned

Before I bought my present Spectrapure Maxcap RO/DI there were some very poor filters i used in the past...Very Happy with Spectrapure
The 2 biggest factors in how much water you will make is water pressure and temperature. As far as waste goes a lot depends on how hard or soft your water is, if you have soft water you can get by with a 3/1 or even a 2/1 waste/good water. If it is hard stay with a 4/1 unless you have the money for Spectrapures UHE filter which can do a 1/1 If your rejection rate is too low for your water you will prematurely foul the membrane |
