Algae Turf Scrubber or Chaeto algae and 2nd skimmer

Hello
I have a lot of room in my sump....

I have room for two options....
1. Algae Turf Scrubber

2. Chaeto algae and a second skimmer

System is a 200 gal
Mixed reef with a heavy bio load!

Any thoughts?
Thank you
Sean

Try a diy scrubber first. Much cheaper, especially if you have a spare pump lying around. Ask in the scrubber thread for a size recommendation considering your current skimmer.

Where are your parameters at now? Is your tank crying out for these things, or do you just want to add one regardless? IMO, if your parameters are within reason now, you might as well just stick with what you got. KISS, GL.

Cloak has a good point. I was going with the assumption that you needed extra filtration since you were willing to throw down some more money on another skimmer.

I'm just thinking.....
Parameters are ok.....nitrates 20-40

Phos....unknown

I'm running ATS now..... I like it.... Just looking for what's best....
I know "best" is up to interpratation.....

ATS vs Chaeto

I guess that's the thought...
Been reefing since '05
I just have more coral and fish then ever.....
Just looking for balanced system

Thanks
Sean

An ats is far more efficient than any macro. I'd stick with that and let it mature.

Ok ...I do like the ATS....

Hobbzz..... What's your thought on adding a second skimmer to the ATS?

Probably not worth the money. What's your bioload, feeding regimen and skimmer? And how do you have the ats set up as far as size, material for the screen, flow, type of lighting and lighting schedule?

Feed one/two times a day....
All food gone in 30 seconds!
Skimmer is a SRO 3000 int
ATS... Full return lands on scrubber....
Screen is the recommended knitting screen... Roughed up good
One sided... 18x12
Light is a 5500k cf bulf with aluminum reflector...
I scrap every 2 weeks.... A full two hand together pile

Change the bulb to a 2700k. How many fish and what size is the display? Not total system, just display. Skimmer is good, you don't need another. Is it producing well?

Hmmm, with that sized scrubber, and just feeding one to two times per day, I would have expected your nitrate levels to be much lower. How much are you feeding each time (in cubes)?
