Want to upgrade tank on second story

In the future I'd like to upgrade from my 40 breeder to a 75 gallon tank. The problem is that I'm on the second floor. The weight is almost double but I have an extra foot to span across floor and I'm on an outside wall. Is it safe to do this?

My aquarium is a 125 so it's substantially heavier than the one you want to upgrade to, my home is a raised ranch style so all the weight is suspended on the floor joists BUT it's on an outside wall so most of the weight is carried through to the foundation. Floors have a certain static weight they can support that's pretty easy to figure out online. I'd never put an aquarium away from an outside wall unless it could be supported with some sort of posts underneath and if your basement is finished such as mine, that's no going to go over with the significant other to well.

You should be fine even if its an older house. If it is older I wouldn't put more than a 75 if its new I wouldn't put more then a 120g. Im not an engineer so take this with a grain of salt. If you are still not sure have an engineer come out tell you his opinion

I have my 90 in my second story apartment on an outside wall. I live in a house that was converted to apartments some time ago and it's an older house but I've had no problems. My biggest worry is ever having a flood of any sort and then drenching my neighbor downstairs so I make every effort to avoid running into that problem.
