IMO/IME, common (and harmless) Asterina Stars. I have them in both systems, they have never bothered a thing.

I've had them in every tank I've owned. I've never had a problem with them. I have heard that some could possibly go after SPS, but I've never encountered those kind.

I agree I've had them in my current system for two years and I only ever see them on rocks seemingly grazing on algae

There are many different species. Most, which 90% of people have are harmless, while other species are a big pain in the a**.
Hopefully you have the harmless kind.

Keep an eye on them, but as others have stated, they are normally harmless, but they do multiply like rabbits.

I have a large one in my tank and I've watched it studiously avoid coral and stick to the rock. But there is a variety that eats coral so if you plan to keep them just watch for any problem children.

They are harmless until they get out of control. I always pick them off the glass as I see them. They can get to plague proportions if you let them. The ones you see on your coral are eating Algae from dead tissue.

I've never seen them cause a problem. I know some say there are varieties that munch coral, but I haven't seen it. At a minimum most varieites are harmless (even beneficial).
