When I started in the hobby, I bought a BRS unit because I thought it was the best deal. But after going through a crazy amount of DI resin, I've switched my filters and membrane to SpectraPure. Their 99% rejection membrane can save a lot of money on DI costs...
If I did it again, I'd go Spectrapure from the start. But one thing to note is that outside the filters, these units are essentially the same parts put together the same way. So if you want Spectrapure filters, but somehow have a great deal on another unit, get the other unit and when it's time for new filters/membrane, go spectra pure. |

The units themselves don't matter (in my experience), it's ALL about the filters/membranes. |

I didn't try other carbon blocks, but those might be similar (if you don't have chloramines). I'd argue that even the filters matter. And BRS sells excellent sediment filters, they just don't come with their systems (even the deluxe systems come with Puretrex). |
