Established 75 gallon tank with fuge. They are pods eaters. A lot of wrasses will outcompete them for food.

Very similar to a mandarin as far as diet and tank mates go. Non aggressive community tank mates are best. Pod eaters that can be trained to eat frozen

They will carpet surf for sure. I've never lost a fish to jumping until I got one of these.
Currently I have a pair in a 40b with a 40b sump/fuge. It is a very peaceful tank that I am using to breed cardinal fish and trying to get my pair of ruby reds to mate. Mine are eating almost anything that I put into the tank. Mysis, enriched brine, cyclops and ROE. They are active hunters, but slow and methodical. Other fish will outcompete them easily. They eat pods all day long and I believe that is the main part of their diet.

I havea red scooter which is very similar to the ruby red I think. I trained mine onto frozen bloodworms, it won't touch anything else though. It's always hunting too, I have it in a 20 long so it's easy enough to spot feed if needed. Very very peaceful, no issues with mine jumping and even without a top. Now have a clown with him as well which is just fine so far. Though the dragonet was the first fish on the tank and the longer inhabitant for a couple months which I think made training easier.

I have heard of 1 case where someone said their dragonet loved pellets... that's it.. good luck with it. nutramar is a good supplement if you can find some. dragonets love nutramar

Most frozen foods aren't quite nutritious enough for them. They're rather difficult to keep.

They are Dragonets and should totally be treated as such. A special needs fish! Want them to thrive, provide them with plenty of live CopePods, Newly hatched baby brine shrimp.
