Goniopora - I want your story and experience

Guys, I could browse all day to get information about Goni (article from Justin etc) but I would rather get your feedback, particularly from your personal experience caring for Goni.

Flow: Direct flow or Indirect Flow?
Placement: Substrate or Mid Level?
Lighting: How long hours of lights? High Intensity light or moderate light?
Feeding: How many times per day/per week/per month/per year? What do you feed them? There is no point feeding them when they are not fully extended; logically this should be accurate but wanted to get your feedback.

At the moment, it looks like zoas; I have no immediate concern at this stage as I believe it is still acclimating (just went into the tank yesterday).

I have it in medium indirect flow and place it at bottom . Lightening intensivity is at 42%. Feeding it once a week with Kent marine microvert. It's in my tank 8 months now.

I don't target feed my goni. It just receives what ever residuals there are from broadcast feeding the fish with frozen foods and the corals with Reef Pearls, Oyster Fest or what ever. It's on the substrate and gets medium, random flow. There's an Advanced Aquarist article on goniopora. If I find it I'll post the link.

I just saw Justin credible today. Was with him all day we'll kinda. He was at cmac. He used to work at a old lfs. If it wasn't for justin I wouldn't have ever started reefing. He has a food that I think 2 little fishes make now goni power

Do you feed them when they're looking like zoas or better wait until tentacles are out?

Had my ORA red gonipora for a year now. Moderate inderct flow on sand bed. Dont direct feed but do feed tank 2 times a day fairly heavily.

The red ora goni is indestructable and doesn't seem to require any specific care.

I have a ORA red, a unique kind of green one with real small polyps and another blue one for 2 years

Indirect flow, sits on the substrate, I used to feed it goniopower but don't bother anymore. The biggest problem I had was the substrate riding up on the side and covering up the polyps at the bottom. SPS lighting in a 30 inch tank. 16 hours of actinic lighting with about 4 hours of full lighting during the day.

I also have a alveopora and recently gotten into the encrusting varieties.

My local Petco had a very nice example for a few weeks. Someone bought it just before I made the decision to buy it. It was 100$ so I wanted to know the best way to care for it as well. Good information all. I will be borrowing some tips for next time.

I've been caring for Alveo and Goni for a couple years now and have been most successful as of late. I now have about 9 Gonis and they are doing great. For me mid way up in direct flow has been great. In fact they sit under two mp40s at 75% all the time. Feed all of the small particle food including Goni power by broadcast feedings. They also sit directly under LEDs, 4 t5s and 2 250w radiums.

Care of these guys has come a long way even in the last 5 years...I remember when nobody could keep them alive. Seems like they are much more hardy now. I've been thinking about picking up a red one.

How to differentiate encrusting gonis to long tentacles gonis?

does this one look like encrusting or long tentacles acclimating gonis?

Is there any hope to wait and wait for this thing to extend their tentacles or they do not have tentacles?
