Was looking at the Lagunas but was concerned if they will stand up in saltwater. Is there any benefit to using a DC pump versus a AC one when it comes to return pumping?

There is no reason anyone should consider Lagunas. Opt for the Fluval SP series. Same Askoll motor, better bearings, base, and barbed fittings.

Between the slowing of the motor and the smaller amount of heat produced, that's why I was looking at these DC pumps as well.
After having read though this thread..kinda of changing my mind here...sooo......

I was looking at the Fluval SP but their smallest one still pushes out more flow than I need. I can't see an issue with just putting a valve on it right? Clamping it down to slow the flow...It's not going to hurt the pump right? .

Look into the Tunze 1073.50 if the Fluval SP900 is too much pump.

I am being told there is a new compact controllable pump on the horizon from a reputable company soon. Not sure on the definition fo soon though.

I've also heard v is coming out a DC pump but that it is going to be a beast from a flow point. Now sure if that's who you are referring to.

wanted to ask about your post from september. was wondering if you still run the waveline 6000? You had mentioned that you weren't too impressed with how much water it was able to move. was wondering if you would be able to elaborate on that, and maybe specify what size your system was at the time. I plan on purchasing a return pump very soon here for a 90gallon reef tank project i've got going on. Very much appreciate any feedback you can provide. Thanks!
