MH with LED
Is there anyone using both?
I'm lighting a 210 gallon and don't want to run the MH for 12 hours Here's my thought Led photo period 12hr mH- 6 hours at 2 hour intervals I'm aware of the led life span being shorter if I put the led strips directly under the MH and I wouldn't run the LED at 100% the Mh would act as a bright supplement for 2 hrs at 3 times daily Please advise and help I'm just stuck here. I was running 250 watt Mh x3 Would like to run only 2 on each end of the tank and let the LEd be the main lighting

I run LED fixtures 12 hours a day, and then supplement with 150 watt 14K MH for 5 hours on my 265. Not sure why you'd not want to just run them for the 6 hours in a row. Also, if you angle the MH reflector slightly, you can mount it either in front or behind the midline of the tank so you don't have to have the LED strips under the MH bulbs.

I would split it for heating reasons. I would think it would get twice as hot ran 6hrs straight verses 2 hr intervals either way, your input is appreciated

You may significantly reduce the life of your halides by having them go on and off so frequently. I was under the impression that halides incur most of their wear and tear on start up (t5 as well). Being said....I use led/mh combo. 2x250 watt halides and a BML super actinic led strip. Halides on for 6 hours in the middle of the led photoperiod
