I actually get the opposite effect where my skimmer foams extra for a couple of hours after I put a new sock in.

I wash my filter socks with bleach and then hang them out to dry far at least 3 days. Are you washing them and then putting them right back on?

Then I'm not sure why that's happening, make sure you are not using bleach mixed with a fabric softener or color safe bleach, use regular chlorine bleach.

+1 My skimmer foams more with a clean sock added. I put them through the dryer and they air out on the basement floor a day or two before I start using them. Use bleach/concentrated bleach and soak them for about half an hour. Is it possible you are getting a soap residue from the previous load?

Most people use too much soap in their washing machine. The industry has you guys using 2-4x what you should be using. Take a shirt, put it in the sink, do you get foam? Too much soap and terrible for your skin! It cakes up like chicken grease inside the washer.

I run my whites with half soap, extra rinse, and bleach for the load before my filter socks.

Filter socks get bleach only and luckily my washer has an option for a 3rd rinse

Your problems come from surfacants left in the washer.

Use hydrogen peroxide not bleach, Cleans better, and no residual crap in the socks after

No use it in the wash just like bleach. Most grocery stores sell this stuff called "bleach for unbleachables". Or "green bleach". It's hydrogen peroxide

Found it

Bleach works fine... Just make sure it is just bleach. I use my washing machine with an extra rinse cycle. I never have a change when using a new sock

I think most experience their skimmer going a little crazy when replacing socks. Someone recently suggested rinsing the sock in some salt water before reusing it. Haven't tried it yet though.

I am confused. If there's bleach residual in filter sock, wouldn't it cause a skimmer foam more?

For what ever reason I changed to a brand new filter socks after rinsing and soaking in rodi, the skimmer started foaming as it should
