? for AquaMaxx HOB-1 owners

I want to put one of these on an old Current Aquapod 24 gallon AIO tank. I'm seeking the length from the back of the tank to the outside edge of the input/output pipes. I'm worried the the pipes will extend too far to fit into the rear compartment and will hit the wall of that compartment. I've seen MarineDepot's video about the JBJ 28g but that doesn't help me much.

If someone has theirs installed where they could measure that distance it would be greatly appreciated.

Back of the tank ?

From the back of the tank the skimmer is hanging on ?

Do you mean that back of the skimmer body ?

The body of the skimmer is 3" deep, front to back. The length from the back of the skimmer to the front of the return pipe is just over 6.75 inches.

Thanks so much for that. It will be right on the edge of do-able for me. I should try to get a pic to explain my concern. Your measurement is enough that I think its worth ordering one and having to pay a return shipping charge if it doesn't work, and wasting the vendors time too. Marine Depot never responded to my question. That's a first.

The skimmer I'm running now is an eshopps and it fails daily. Cleaning it every few days. Original pump gave up and I replaced it. Still the failures. Siphon breaks. I'm just not comfortable with the pumps overheating while I'm away from the house.

Fail = siphon breaking.

If the distance from the front of the skimmer body to the outside of the return is the dimension you're limited by that's easily remedied.

The return feeds a standard schedule 80 elbow. You could buy an identical one at any Home Depot or comparable store. Put a grinding stone on a Dremel tool and enlarge the inside diameter of the elbow where it fits on the skimmer. You'll be able to move it close to the skimmer by a good 1/4" or more. You'll increase the back pressure on the skimmer but that just means you set the collection chamber higher.

A photo of where you're trying to fit it would go a long way to making sure we're talking about the same dimension on the skimmer.

I threw together this diagram that may help. Pardon the proportions, this was the best diagram I had to work with. You should be able to get the measurements you need. Let us know how it works out!

You might want to take a close look at your illustration. It's not a correct illustration. The return extends further from the skimmer body than the inlet. You have it the other way around.

Thanks both for the info. I think it'll work but only one to find out. I have to go out of town for thanksgiving and thought about trying to upgrade before I left, but I think time is a little too short. I have found a tank sitter so I should be OK.

Marine Depot has always been very prompt with information. One of the reasons you have always been one of my top two vendors, since before there was an internet. The drawing is helpful, what would be ideal is to also know the thickness of the skimmers body. That way I know the extension length into the tank of both intake and return. If I have to mod things a little no big deal, I usually do. Just hope the PVC is not metric. It's kinda hard to find around here.

My current skimmer worked great when it worked, but the continuous breaking of siphon is beyond getting old. It has what is definitely metric PVC piping.
