plumbing 101 on a mag 9.5

the outlet pipe on the mag 9.5 has some treads, do I just shove a vinyl tubing on the outlet and clamp it or should I use some sort of fitting?

I also want to add a ball valve or gate valve (which one will be better?) to control the return line.

pics or links would be great help as I have a very little knowledge when it comes to this.

Caution while threading

Be careful when tightening the threads to MAGS, I've cracked them many times with only "finger tight" pressure.

Never been an issue for me, because I'm running them all submerged, but if you ever run them externally...

That's been my experience.

use the gate valve you will have more control to fine tune the amount of water entering your display tank. Also I agree with androal about cracking threads on MAGS, when cleaning my pump I had a hard time unscrewing the pvc fitting and cracked the threads on my pump.

DO NOT use the cheap Home Depot ball valves....they get hard and stick over time...sooner than later!!

Buy the Cepex Dual Union ball valves from BRS or other vendors. It allows you to remove the return line very easily to service the pump.

Will the ball valve youre suggesting work with vinyl return line or just PVC?

Just PVC

You can find them for vinyl tubing.

I have mine plumbed into a vinyl 5/8 return line on a barbed fitting. The clear line is my return. Right by Avast sticker is the barbed fitting, that is attached to my ball valve.
