I forgot about how much they don't like high flow areas, the particular area they are beginning to take over is directly to the side of an old wavemaker powerhead that I used to use. I quit using to see if corals liked it better w/o but there was not much difference in growth. For some reason soft corals really like my tank and being only 12 gal jbj cube and real estate is at a premium these days.
I plucked and scrapped off as much mushroom as I could, but they are hard to see when they are ****ed off and spraying water at your face. I put epoxy over one hole. Thankfully that rock only has mushrooms and after I broke and scrapped off all of the tissue I could see I inverted the rock toward the powerhead and started the wave maker. Most of the disturbed tissue began to let go and I scooped with a net.

I turned the lights off for 2 days and turned all my powerheads on my green hairy mushrooms and ricordeas. They started moving trying to find light after only a few hours of discomfort and I scoped them out w a fish net.

You have had problems with ricordias as well? Of all the mushrooms, they are my favorite, I cannot get them to split but maybe once every 3 months.

i've pretty much declared war on all soft corals in my tank. i've finally rid of kenya trees and pulsing xenia, so the mushrooms are next on the hit list.

i have a three step process that has been working well so far.

1. cut the mushroom as close as possible to the base and toss them in to the QT tank.
2. kalk paste the bejesus out of the spot where they used to be.
3. place large euphyllia close to spot to zap anything i missed.

soft corals just take over too much in my opinion. i'm going to be adding in a small side tank to my main system soon to house pipefish and a few other "nano" sized inhabitants. i plan to outfit that with softies, since it will be small, isolated, and easy to manage them in there. but trying to trim them out of a 75 gallon with well over 100lbs of rock is nearly impossible.

for my Z's and P's i luckily had them all on one very large rock. which i removed, took to my LFS, and traded in for a bunch of store credit. problem solved.

I have some mushrooms that I would like to eradicate as well. Can you use Mrs Wages Pickling Lime to make the kalk paste and if so, what ratios have worked well for you?

yeah that should be fine to use.

i typically mix up a little bit of mine with some fresh RODI water. just enough water that it makes a very thick paste. almost the viscosity of like cool whip. just add a tiny bit of water and carefully stir, if it is still dry and clumpy add a little more.

just make sure when you go to apply it that you turn off all your pumps. let it sit on the spot for a little while, then remove as much as you can before you turn your pumps back on.

the last thing you want is one of your pumps blowing a giant chunk of the stuff on your favorite coral.
