Help massive over feed!
So I come home today and some clever idiot in the house has dumped half a pot of flake food and half a pot of solid food in my tank. There was solid food all over the bed and all in the sump and my flake food pot was brand new 2days ago and now half empty. My protein skimmer is going crazy, the water is cloudy and the fish look stressed, my faxface being the worst looking very fat and sitting still turning black. I have sucked almost all the food out I can get to and changed my poly wool.
I'm about to do a 10% water change but any other ideas on what I can do to get over this and what I am to expect next? |

I'm no expert in this subject, but from what I know its actually the extra nutrients from the uneaten food that you need to worry about, not necessarily the fish eating too much.
I think you are on the right path by removing excess and doing water change. |

Yer that's what I was thinking. I would do a bigger water change but only have enough water for 10% I'll tryget more and do another 25% tomorrow.

The question is what are you going to do to the person that did this?

Big water changes, definitely. Don't worry too much about the fish eating too much, it's okay for fish to gorge themselves once or twice.
Don't feed them for the next few days, that'll help.

Siphon as much food out as possible, including the sump.
Get a fish net over a sump compartment and siphon from the tank into the net, this will collect food without removing water. Then complete water changes, 20% at a time, whilst monitoring your water parameters. Let your skimmer do its thing. Add carbon and phosphate remover asap and replenish the first batch after 48hrs. Make sure you have enough circulation and the surface of the tank is being disturbed for oxygenation.
