submersible pump for 300 gallon reef

I would appreciate any input I could get, im looking for a submersible return pump for my reef tank, im leaning towards submersible because of noise created by external pumps. im looking for 1500 - 2000 gph, are there any pumps you guys would recommend, thank you in advance

For a submersible on a tank that size, my first choice would be an ATB Flowstar 3200 or even a Flowstar 1800. I'd go with the larger of the two if you plan on running reactors. If you want one, contact ATB USA via PM or email via their website. I think they have them in stock.

They use an Askoll block which is damn near bulletproof and dead silent. The add an improved custom volute that improves flow substantially and allows for external use too. They also add a custom base plate with rubber feet. I've been seriously considering using a Flowstar 4200 in place of one of my external Dart closed loop pumps. They are one of the best internal pumps you can get and also super as an external because they are silent and reliable with little to no heat transfer.

I'm not a fan of these Chinese DC pumps. You will get a lot of people recommending the Jebao DC's or the Wavelines but none of them have a good track record for reliability and the last thing you want is a questionable return pump let alone a return pump failure.

Eheim 1260 or 1262. No reason to run that much through the return. You'll end up with a gurgling overflow

I use a External Pan World 50PXX and a 40PX on my 300DD. I shut the 40PX down at 10pm and start it back up at 9am. This makes for a very quiet aquarium at night from the overflows. Both pumps are very quiet, plus if I lose one I still have one to run my tank.

I have had good luck with a Mag 24 on my 300g. I don't think its as sophisticated as the others and its a little noisy (my sump in a work room so no issue).

Sicce are my go to submersibles; PanWorld for externals. Reliability and longevity trumps everything else for me in a main pump. Cannot speak personally to the longevity of Sicce as my oldest one is not yet 5,yrs old, but I'm optimistic. Have owned multiple PW and only one failed to make at least 7 years (and I bought it used in less than advertised condition).

It shouldn't they are fairly quiet pumps. How do you have it plumbed?

I hard plumbed everything which can be the reason why. I used an adapter on the output to go from 1.25" to 1.5" to a wye then reduced it to 1" off the wye.

You should separate the hard plumbing and add a piece of silicone tubing as anti vibe. HTH. Fluvals are one of the quietest pump on the market. It is possible your plumbing might be touching somewhere and resonating the noise. I would suggest a piece of min. 6 inches. If you have room. Other wise shorter. Cut it between your Y fitting and the union.

You hit it right one the head. My manifold was resonating against my fuge. I need to figure out a way to hang the manifold so it doesnt touch the fuge. The fluval sp6 pump is quiet and impressive. Im 100% satisfied.
