Man, this thread is overwhelming. I think theres some great info, but I wish someone could summarize the whole thread and then maybe edit the title to tell which page the summary was on. My ps75 is going to be here thursday and I'm still trying to sort through this thread to understand all the mods. Great work on this little skimmer though guys!

UPDATE: After a week and a half, the skimmer is really picking up speed. As of Saturday. the skimmer is constantly frothing and collecting more and more smelly stuff. Here is collections for the last 24 hours. Camera's not that great but the color of the skim is between tea and coffee - not translucent, a definite thick fluid: |

Man I thought this thread was dead. Sweet to see someone with a new one. Wish I had pics, but I got mine and ran it for 4-5 days stock, with the sponges, and it was already pulling gunk out that looked exactly as u describe. Microbubbles had basically stopped. I pulled it off that tank though so I could use it to mach up my sump for the permanent tank it will be on.

Thanks!
I really am thrilled with this skimmer. I had been running a remora for years until I found this thread. The remora would pull out hardly anything and what it did was a very pale green color. This $45 skimmer is running circles around it. Here are the MINOR changes I made: 1. Remove both supplied sponges 2. Replace airline with regular airline. The one supplied kinks too easily. 3. Airline ends in a sound "baffle" to aid in quiet running (common mod to silence air intake using a film canister). So really, no true mods just small enhancements. The skimmer started off slowly but after a week really came alive. It now looks like this all day/night. This AM's pic: |

Hi wagohn, I just got mine 3 days ago. This is my first skimmer so I can say i am not sure what i am doing. I have it as an HOB and it seems to be producing way too many micro bubbles to the outlit. I put the foam on the out line and the micro bubbles seem to have gone at first but the following day i still ahd some micro bubbles coming out of the foam. The Airline, where did you connect it to? I have it in the first tube from the power head pump. It still hsnt produced any skimmate either. Any help would be great! |

Sorry I have been out of town and so my response is a little late. The micro bubbles disappear after the skimmer is fully broken in. My skimmer has been running 3 weeks now and the micro bubbles have 90% disappeared. The airline connects to one of the small inputs that are attached to within the intake. I think there are 3 or 4 possible intakes to choose from - any will do. Hope this helps ... |

I have a question to any owners of this skimmer that are still currently using it.
Does anybody know what size the threading is on the input side on the actual main body of the skimmer? I'm hoping it'll allow me to connect a socket union so I can feed it from an external pump and supply air from a limewood air stone and air pump, well, providing it's not some sort of weird, metric threading? |
