Your creatures do not commit suicide

I saw someone refer to 'lookout, those creatures like to commit suicide and get stuck in powerheads'.

I just wanted to chime in and say, do not pretend you had nothing to do with it.
The creatures we keep, do not commit suicide. They think they're in the ocean as far as we know, they will continue to do what they do, go anywhere and everywhere they can.

It is your responsibility to put sponges and prefilters on things, if you're going to have certain types of creatures. They rely on you for this.

So please don't pass the buck, and make up excuses for your neglect.

I put MP60's in my tank just to shred as many creatures as possible.
So. Freakin. Awesome.

Something about it rubbed me wrong. The presentation may have lacked, but the message IS great. Something everyone should consider when choosing their inhabitants..

There's multiple options for a screened cover for minimal light loss.(the clear stuff is greatt) Carpet surfing is very easy to prevent compared to other things.

OP, I hope you're not being too serious about this and realize that the term "fish commit suicide" is just that.. A term or analogy and nothing literal. When people use that term, they are simply suggesting that one should be careful because something can be dangerous to the inhabitant. Most often used as a term relating to power heads and certain fish or anemones. I think we are all aware that the onus is on us to provide a safe environment for our fish and tank inhabitants and while you may not like that term, it has it's merits in bluntly describing a scenario in which our inhabitants safety can be compromised. I think you realize this which leads me to wonder what the real purpose of this thread is. Is it to change our mentality or educate us that our fish have feelings too?

There are a lot of terms that are used frequently in life that are not used in the most literal of meanings. Many of which are much more offensive. Terms like "retarded" along with others that would not be appropriate to post here. Point being that I think you need to grow thicker skin as your thread isn't going to change the reality of people using that term anymore than a single handed campaign is going to change the use of slang in our society.

FWIW, My fish don't commit suicide because they learned the dangers of it in "school".

Actually my fish last week told me he was thinking about suicide.
I immediately took him to a doctor and they had him lay down on a couch and talk about it. After 3 hours and a big bottle of medication he says he is feeling better about himself.

Maybe its PTSD.. they throw that diagnosis out like candy at a parade now..

As long as you don't keep lemmings in your tank.

Can I still refer to a fish that flat out disappears with no trace a 'ninja'? Or is that disparaging to Asian species?

I'm glad I'm not the only one. What the good doctor does behind closed doors is none of our business though.

Damn, I must be missing out. In my years of being a member and the several years of lurking prior to becoming a member, I never once checked out the Lounge section.. Maybe that's why.

I think I will go check the lounge out right now.

This is the reason I stopped dosing vodka. They were crashing into the powerheads.

But maybe by adding vinegar to your salty tank you're encouraging them to jump into a vat of hot oil.
Thank goodness they can't get near the panko bread crumbs....

Wonder if vodka dosing might help captive breeding programs though?
