Problem with ATI Sunpower

I have a brand new 48" 8 bulb ATI dimmable Sunpower fixture. It's been running for about a month now. Channel 2 that runs six bulbs sudendly is not working. Has anybody experienced this problem? What do you think it may be? I fear the ballast has gone bad. This has been my third issue with this unit and beginning to be extremely aggravated and disappointed with it although my SPS are loving the T5 lighting.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Sergio,

Check all of your bulbs and make sure they are snug in the sockets. They are wired in parallel so if one bulb is loose the whole connection gives way.

Grow those corals out, I need more frags for the new tank.

I second the checking of the bulbs. If you have any extra bulbs laying around you can swap those in to see if the problem may be a specific bulb.

Once in a while controllers can be damaged in shipping although it's rare. Hope to see you get this fixed. ATI North America has super good customer service if it comes to that.

Kasei dude what's up. Have not spoken to you in a while. Corals are doing great under the T5s and I would say even a bit better than under my old Radiums. Yes I did check all bulbs. The strange thing is that it just stopped working from one day to the next

I will have frags available very soon... that is if I can get this lighting issue resolved ASAP!

If one of the bulbs is bad, then that whole "channel" will stop working. Try putting bulbs that you know are 100% functional in Channel 2.

Yep been a while. Since it is new I wouldn't want you to do this but I recently had the same problem and it turned out to be a loose wire in one of the tube ends. You would have to open it up to see. Since it is under warranty, just let them do a warranty exchange. It could also be a loose connection end too. Check the outlet socket it is in. Sometimes the internal blades get widened and don't make good contact. Did you try another outlet?

Let me know when you are ready for frags. I always see you in the freezing cold anyway!!

What was the problem with the lamp? Any updates? I have a 6x39W sunpower, where channel 2 stopped working last week. I have checked all the bulbs. I have opened up the sides to check the wiring, but I couldn`t find any loose ones :-/

I have contacted ATI, but that process is going slow.

I also had the channel 2 stopped working on my less than 3 months old 48" 6x54w Sunpower Dim version. Looked the the relay went out on yours as well. You can test it by go to the controller, and turn on the chanel two. If you hear the relay energizes (clicks sound), but the bulbs do not fire up. More likely you have a defective relay and needed to replace.

It is extremely inconvinience as hell as I have to take it down and send in for service. The sticks were not very happy.

ATI Customer Cares is awesome. Ask them for the RA #. Try to contact Sammuel King. He is a cool guy.

Ok, seems I have defective relay then. Is it easy to fix? I bought the lamp abroad, so it will be expensive to send it to get repaired, and it will also take a lot of time.

IF it is a bad relay and ur ati is still under warranty. I'm sure ati will send you the part for repair...remove and remount is easy. It should take a few minutes to remove and remount a nephew relay. You just have to have a soldering equipment and solder rosin.

Bad relay on a 24" Sunpower

I am yet another ATI user who has had channel 2 go bad.

I checked all the bulbs, which are fine. The unit is 1 month old, under warranty and the guy at ATI customer service didn't hesitate to assume it was a relay that had gone bad, though he did not volunteer the information until I asked.

He sent me an email with two videos, one used to problem solve to make sure there is actually something wrong with the unit and another with instructions on how to replace a faulty relay.

They requested I send a picture of my setup and a receipt.

I feel they should have sent the part immediately, as the extra time it took me to get home and take the picture, could mean the difference between losing a few, brand new very expensive frags and having been able to save them.

It's been a few days and I am still waiting on the part. I am hoping it comes before I leave for a week for the holidays.

I'll report back with how the install goes and if it fixes the problem with channel 2.

Mine went out too a while back. I requested 2 new relays and replaced them both while the fixture was open. BE CAREFUL with the controller buttons!!! I sliced one off in tr process. I contacted ati just to ask them a question about using adhesive to repair the button, and they sent me a new controller without me asking. I found their CS to be top notch.

Hope it gets resolved for you soon
