Tunze 9002 skimmer mod. (Water feed line)

Ok so I picked up a 9002 skimmer for a 29g. I'm doing what I think everyone does and learning how this skimmer works. I have noticed that there is no true intake for this skimmer. How does dirty water come into this skimmer if the pump is more or less a recirculating pump. I want to add a feed line into the skimmer that will put dirty water right into the skimmer. Nothing that powerful, maybe less than 20 gals an hour. What do yall think. Good idea or bad?

The skimmer has two small slits on the back near the bottom that is where the water comes in. Most people mod the air line have it run up the electrci cord with a better air valve. Tunze kinda copied that mod with there 9004 skimmer ie better air valve.
