Apex controller with Radion/vortech or EcoSmart Live?
A few weeks ago I purchased 3 radions and 2 vortech 40's and hooked up to the reef link. Absolutely love them by the way. The ecosmart live website and iPhone app is very easy to use and love the controls.
However, I also just upgraded my 8 year old Apex to a new one and it is great also. Love the new fusion software. My question, is their any real advantage to programming the functions into the Apex and not using ecosmart? I'm already using the ecosmart live which is very simple, easy and web based. |

The only reason I could see to switch is if you want to tie in any light or pump configurations to other events. For example to turn down your pumps during a feed mode in which you also did something else, like shut off your return. You could perform both of these functions in one step with the apex.

I don't have vortech pumps, but did recently get some radions. I was at a fork in the road, wxm module for apex or reeflink. Well, I think their proprietary wireless is bs, they could have added bluetooth to the lights, instead they want to sell another thing in addition to an already high price. So I went with the WXM.
After receiving lights/module and getting everything setup, the only advantage to reeflink is the setting of percents for clouds and storms. (neptune is working on this iirc) And acclimation mode is not in Fusion yet. (they need to get this fixed) But it's not super bad because I can log on from anywhere and adjust the %'s. |

I went with apex the ability to control and view every thing in apex is outstanding, apex also allows you to keep notes on changes and see how they effect probes, growth,

I keep getting a "missing" by one of my radions in APEX. My vortechs work fine though with it. I just hooked everything up a few days ago and still trying to learn it all.

I have Apex with Radions and Vortechs.
I elected to control via the Apex. It allows me to manage everything from one place and to tie in the lights and powerheads to other events. I also have the flexibility via programming to change light schedules based on days or other events. For instance, I change my "late night" (dim) light cycle during the weekends so I can look at the tank more. With the powerheads, I go through an array of different programs to keep things random. The one disadvantage with the apex is those radion presets are not available as options from Fusion (yet). I had to manually program in something similar to the radiant colors program.
