Frogspawn Dying...
Okay so my tank has been setup for about 3 1/2 months and all is looking great. Recently both of my frogspawns started to recede. They were both in different locations of the tank.
I also have multiple hammers and torches that are doing great at the same time. I ended up losing a nice bi-color and the 2nd frog seems to be acting the way the first one did when it died. Let me mind you the rest of the tank from softies to sps are doing great. Parameters: Calc: 400 - Going to be dosing to 420 Alk: 7 - Going to start dosing to 9dkh Mag: 1440 NitrAte: 0-5 (API kit - Looks like 0, but I am sure it's not) Phos: 0 (API Kit, Probably Wrong) Tank Equipment: Tank: 72 Bowfront Skimmer: Reef Octopus BH-100 (Does Great, but micro bubbles) Flow: 1x RW-8 Reactor: Phosban 150 w/ Phosguard Liverock: 80+lbs Lightning: 2x 165w Chinese LED Full Spec (Blues on about 50%, Whites about 35%) (Blues run 10 hours, whites run 6 hours) I run chemipure elite in a HoB filter with floss during water changes which are weekly 15% or 10 Gallons using Reef Crystals. I have a good amount of coral and fish in the tank. I recently purchased Reef Fusion 1 & 2 in order to dose my tank. I figure I lose around 5-10 Calc per day, but my Alk seems to always sit at 7. According to calculations I need to be dosing around 8 cap fulls to get 420 calc and 9dkh. I will break this up into 4 cap fulls each day and then try to maintain the levels with 1-2 capfuls each day. Anyways I think I have given you enough information about my tank. I have seen a ton of growth in various corals and coralline algae. What is happening to my frogspawns? All my Euphiylla are in the sand bed also. |

What is the flow like in the areas that the frogspawn were placed. I had to move mine around because the flow was too high and it wouldn't open. once I found a spot for it with lower flow It opened fully and one head has started to split.
All your parameters look good is there any algae in the display that might be consuming the phos. I would pick up some Salifert test kits they are much more accurate and worth the little extra that you pay for them. |

How long has your dkh been low? It think it'd be better stable at 7 than moving from 7-10 all the time. Although ideally it would be wound 8-9. What about your nitrites? Or ammonia? Assuming those are zero . too? Do you have a picture of your frogspawn?

I don't really think its ever been "LOW" I have never tested it below 7. Once I brought the Alk to 9 I can really see it improving. Maybe it was dipping below 7 and I just never caught it. NitrItes / Ammonia: 0 - Was just kind of weird it was the only coral that seemed affected. (Both of the frogspawns)
Im going to keep an eye on it and my levels and keep my alk as steady at 9 as possible. Although now it seem my Calc is getting eating up like crazy... |

Frogspawn is doing much better. As started above, raised the Alk to 9 and it's coming back nicely. I guess it all depends on what creatures in your tank like and not a general rule 7-11 alk is okay
