Question on properly connecting RO/DI unit?

Since tapping in to a main line in my house would be difficult for where my tank is located, would it be possible to connect a RO/DI system to a hose bib outside.

I was thinking of mountng the unit in the dedicated closet behind the tank and then run the necessary line(s) outside to the hose bib for the supply and the draining. My plan would be to turn the hose bib on when i need to fill my storage containers and then off when I'm not using it.

Do they make hose bib connections for RO/DI units and does this sound like a reasonable set up?

You don't need to use a main water line. They make some new plumbing supplies for people like me that are terrible at plumbing called Shark Bites. Cut the pipe connect this with some plastic tubing and your done.

I would be worried using a hose bib that the pipe would freeze, but I live in N.E. Pennsylvania.

I live in Southern CA so freezing isn't an issue.

Most connectors that are supplied with an RO/DI unit are actually hose-bib connectors (female).

Personally, I'd consider having to go outside to turn my RODI unit on/off to be a PITA. One note about this is that you can buy 1/4" polyethylene line at a home store in long lengths (this the type of tubing most commonly used with hobbyist RODI units). You could locate the valve just about anywhere you want in your house and run the supply tubing to the RODI unit.
