Looks more like a majano anemone... also a pest. Maybe some others will verify.

IMO, not Aiptasia - way too many tentacles, probably not a mojano either. It almost looks like a ugly zoanthid

Agreed with above. It definitely looks like a Zoa.

Congrats.

the points on the "tentacles" (for lack of a better term) on the OP's photo looking rounded to me, not sharp. the majano appears to have sharp ends on them?

If you google photos of majanos that is going to vary.

Either way...I'd get rid of it. Mojano, you don't want it. Brown Zoa may not be a pest, but certainly could be if it started multiplying as they sometimes do. Nobody wants to have a brown zoa tank.

Regardless of what it is (I think we can all agree it's *NOT* aiptasia though!), do NOT use a shop vac. Not sure if that was a joke or not, but no no no. #1... it won't work. #2... never remove pest anything by mechanical means. No shop vac, no screwdriver, no xacto blade. All you do is spread it to even more of your tank.

To remove it, use any of the commerical aiptasia removal products, like Aiptasia-X, Joe's Juice (is that around anymore?), or the like. Those products will effectively kill aiptasia, majanos, ugly zoas, and even mushrooms. You can also mix up a paste of kalkwasser and water and drop a blob over the thing... just make sure all your pumps are off and stay off for a bit and the kalk paste doesn't blow around your tank. It *will* kill anything it lands on.

thanks, well I have a small shop vac tube as round as a dime.
My thoughts was put the tube over it and the suction will suck the pods that flake off and a scalpel to remove the base?
