36 bow front

Good afternoon,

I currently have a fish only 36 bowfront but I am thinking about trying to get some corals going in it. I know I need a good LED for it, any suggestions for it? I am looking at the TaoTronics TT-AL03 is this any good? Please let me know, I want to get into this soon

http://www.aquacave.com/30-SunPod-1x...FXHxOgodl0MAFQ ...I have the same fixture over my 36 gallon bow and love it, it's been on my tank for 4-5 years now. I replace the MH bulb every 6-8 months and thats about it... I have open brains, acro's, ricordea mushrooms, gonioporas, and a red bubble tip anenome...My only issue was the LEDs that are included in the fixture will eventually burn out, and with salt build up on the fixture, the screws to remove the led plates are impossible to remove... So once they went out i just retrofit an R2 solutions moonlight to the fixture, which is an all around better moon light led

I also have a 36 bow front and I use a DIY led light, but if you are not into building it yourself, you can go to eBay and search for 120W LED. You will find many good lights for under $100. I would stick with Blue and white only.

I've seen many full spectrum LED lights and the benefits are not that much. As you know, T5 lights don't come in green or red. Therefore, you don't need them. Just my opinion.

Couldn't resist but t5 do come in green and red only for the hydroponics and horticulture industry.....green ones are flipped on only when viewing plants and the red ones of course are targeted at growth........but more to the point the spectrum graph of T5 has a very sharp green spike and a very sharp red spike. Something 95% of white LEDs on the market (and so far 100% of the ones used for premade reef lighting) do not have. There is no comparison between a "10K LED" and a "10K T5" they are so far from the same it's not even funny......

The red and green LEDs are an attempt to add back in the spectrum that the white leds lack to the overall light output of the fixtures.

More than just "blue and white" really is needed to have an aesthetically pleasing tank. violet is also very important for good coloration of corals. So I would again suggest Reefbreaders or Ocean Revive fixtures for a decent budget fixture. You never know what your getting on ebay and 9 times out of 10 if its way cheaper than something that looks similar then there's a darn good reason. When it comes to lighting don't skimp out.
