Help with changing my sump setup..identifying parts

Hi all,

This is my sump currently:

The right chamber has my skimmer and return pump, while the left is a refuge.

My plan is to change it so the return only goes into the refugium, with the pump pulling water through into the right chamber and back into the tank.

Are there any reasons to avoid this design?

I then want to make it so the water returns under the surface, as it's quite loud when it hits water.

What kind of part would I need to change my return to do this? I had someone build this for me, so I'm not familiar with the parts to change it myself.

I am thinking to either block the water going out the right side, or to get a replacement part, but what part would I need? Is there any reason I shouldn't just leave the return hose in the refugium?

I don't see a reason not to just leave the gray return hose directly in the refugium, right? no reason or way it could come out unless I take it out....

cut the whole top off, put an extention and let it go straight down in a bigger refugium. having it cut off just makes it complicated

I see a lot of salt spray. Just what I noticed.

I'm not sure what you say when you mean cut the whole top off? Do you mean the white piping?

I don't know how I can prevent that? It's very high up on my cabinet door, not sure how it gets so high, but I clean it about once a month.

cut where it T's off so it can go straight down into a single sump and not a double. plenty of diy refugium like around $30

That's what I was thinking. The grey hose unscrews from the T piping. Would it be fine to just leave the grey hose in my refugium?

The water would then return only to the left chamber, be pulled through into the right chamber and go through the skimmer and back into my tank.

Sounds fine, right?

Looks like you could both raise the drain and lower the return with some pvc pipe so the return is below the water line.

Is there any reason not to just have the return hose directly in the refugium, without piping?

I'm still unclear if there is any problem with just leaving the return hose in the sump. Is there any reason I would need to attach it to piping?
