Kalk in ato help

Hey guys,

I have been running my 90 gallon basic setup for about a year now and am starting to get some additional equipment. Up until now, I have just had just a basic sump setup with a filter sock, eshopps s120 skimmer, return pump and heater. I have recently added a gfo and carbon reactor Teed off of my return line and being fed back into the skimmer section of the sump with the drain line from the DT.

Should I move the outputs of the reactors to the return section of the sump? Or does it not really matter?

Also, I am about to start dosing kalk via my tunze ato. I understand how to saturate and get the levels in check but my main question is, where should I put the discharge line from the ato? Should I put it in the skimmer section so it can mix with the drain, or return section so it doesn't got brought the skimmer?

There is not much flow in the return section (detrius settling area) but can move the reactor outputs there to help mix the ato water if it helps.

Thanks

Doesn't matter since they are run off the return pump anyways. As long as you have enough flow through the sump, the water they filter gets mixed back in with the water coming from the display such that everything has essentially the same water chemistry leaving the return pump.

The best place for the discharge line is where you have lots of flow. A small amount of the kalk will react with the CO2 in the air and form calcium carbonate which then either precipitates out as a film on the water surface or builds up on the sides of the sump. In my sump the kalk gets added into the drain/skimmer section right before the baffle and I gradually see a crusty accumulation form on the top edge of the baffle near that spot. Whenever I do a water change I see if I can break any of the crust off but overall it doesn't hurt anything.

Is the kalk ok to pass through the reactors? Or should I reconfigure my setup?
